Top 5 Stadiums: 1.) Lambeau Field

Posted by mikemarit on October 11, 2009

lambeauLambeau Field doesn’t just offer the best sports experience in Wisconsin, it offers one of the best sports experiences, period.

What makes it so special?

Well, let’s start with the fact that it’s the home to the most successful NFL team in history winning 12 championships and having countless legends play on the field.  It was the first NFL stadium built for one team and it remains as the oldest occupied stadium in the NFL.

There’s no question that there is a sense of mystic in and around the stadium.  In fact, in 2007 Lambeau Field was voted the number one NFL stadium in game-day atmosphere and fan experience by Sports Illustrated in an online poll.

Perhaps one of the best things about the stadium (especially in this economy) is that Lambeau Field ranks 22nd among NFL stadiums in Fan Cost Index, meaning that it ranks as the 10th best stadium for value for money.

Whether the Packers have a successful team isn’t even the most important issue when fans attend a game at Lambeau Field.  Some fans just go for the experience and could care less about the outcome of the game.

There’s so much more reasons to go to Lambeau Field than just to attend a game.  One reason for that is because it has the Packers Hall of Fame (maybe some of you could convince yourself that true legends [Bart Starr] are made of more than winning just one superbowl [Brett Favre]).

If you live in Wisconsin and you consider yourself a sport’s fan there is no reason why you should deprive yourself of not taking a trip out to Green Bay to visit Lambeau Field.

Top 5 Stadiums: 2.) Miller Park

Posted by mikemarit on October 8, 2009

miller-772664Miller Park is one of the most beautiful stadiums you will ever see.  The Brewers stadium is thought to be one of Wisconsin’s largest construction projects ever.  It’s absolutely stunning to look at and gawk at it’s enormity.

The fun starts hours before the game when you get to the parking lot early to set up your grill.  Grilling up burgers, hot dogs, and brats are key to having a true experience at the ballpark.  It’ll eventually occur to you when you are either eating or throwing the ball around that you still have a baseball game to attend.

Once inside you notice how big the capacity of the stadium is.  There are so many things that catch your eye, from the LED screen to Bernie Brewer’s slide.  In the middle of the 6th inning you have the Sausage races and then during the seventh inning stretch you join in on “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” and “Beer Barrel Polka.”

You don’t need to be a Brewers fan to have a fun time at Miller Park. Scratch that… you really don’t need to be a baseball fan or even a sports fan to have a great time at Miller Park.

Top 5 Stadiums: 3.) Camp Randall

Posted by mikemarit on October 8, 2009

WisconsinCampRandallStadiumEven though I am not a fan of the Wisconsin-Madison Badgers at all, I will give credit where it’s due.  Camp Randall is a great place to watch a college football game.

Sitting right in the middle of the city, surrounded by buildings, Camp Randall has a lot of tradition.

The site of the stadium is on the grounds of a former Union Army training camp from the Civil War with the same name.

The location of the stadium gives off its own tradition, but that means nothing once the game starts…

From the opening kickoff until 5th quarter, there is always something going on during a Badger game.

Chants, Jump Around, the Wave, and the band.

It’s definetly an experience.  It definetly makes me jealous that Wisconsin-Milwaukee doesn’t have a football team.

Top 5 Stadiums: 4.) Whistling Straits

Posted by mikemarit on October 7, 2009

whistling straitsWhistling Straits isn’t a stadium, but it is still one of the best places to watch a sporting event in Wisconsin.

Whistling Straits held two major golf tournaments since opening in 1998, The PGA Championship in 2004 and the 2007 Senior Open.

Major golf tournaments aren’t held at Whistling Straits very often, but you should make a point to go to the Kohler golf course when the PGA Championship comes back in the summer of 2010.  Most people have never attended a PGA Tour event and I believe it’s something everyone should experience.

It really is something to watch Tiger Woods tee off and hit the ball about 20 times farther than you will ever dream of.  Even if you’re not a golfer it should be something you can still appreciate.

The course itself isn’t just considered the best golf course in Wisconsin, many people bring it into the coversation when talking about the best golf course in the country.

If money isn’t an issue for you and you would like to golf the course, you can play for $300.  However, if you don’t have $300 to spend you should really consider getting tickets for the PGA Championship.

Top 5 Stadiums: 5.) Fox Cities Stadium

Posted by mikemarit on October 7, 2009

boVoeI8GOk, so this might not be the most technologically or architecturally outstanding stadium, but it is a great stadium to brings your kids  for their first baseball game.

It’s also a great stadium to go to with friends if you want to watch a professional baseball game, but you don’t want to travel to Milwaukee or you are on a tight budget.

Fox Cities Stadium is located in Appleton and one of the reasons why it is an ideal place to watch a baseball game is because there really are no bad seats.  Everyone has a great view because of its small size.

The team that occupies this stadium is the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.  The Timber Rattlers are a minor league baseball team affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers.

There have been a lot of young players that went through the Timber Rattler system, some former players for the team include Alex Rodriguez and David Ortiz.

Not only is Fox Cities Stadium a nice stadium with good deals, but it offers some great young prospects to watch.

Top 5 Places in Wisconsin to Watch a Sporting Event

Posted by mikemarit on October 7, 2009

stadiumThere isn’t a whole lot to talk about this week because the Packers are on a bye week so I’m going to start something new.

As you could tell by the title of this post, I’m going to count down the top 5 sports stadiums to watch sports in the state.

Starting today I will post my number 5 and every day I will count down until I find the number 1 sports place in Wisconsin.

I’m basing the top 5 on overall experience that the particular stadium has to offer.

Does anyone out there want to see a particular stadium on the list?  What’s your number 1 place to watch a sporting event?
